The New York Knicks came out flat and without energy on both ends of
the court against the Washington Wizards, falling behind by as many as 15 in
the first quarter. The Knicks attempted to claw their way back into
the game but never led and fell 116-105. Jalen Brunson led the team
with 32 points, while scored 21 and Immanuel Quickley added 18.

A disappointed Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau said, “we were playing from behind all night,” he began.
“That hurt us and they came out and were making shots early. They got a lot of
confidence from that, and I thought they played really well. We missed
shots and we couldn’t get our defense on track.”

Julius Randle, who was 6-17 from the floor, described the team as
stagnant when discussing the performance. “That’s not our type of
basketball as far as defensively,” he said. “Just kind of letting them
do whatever they wanted, and you know it’s tough.”

Brunson spoke about what the team should do when shots aren’t falling.
“I think it starts with our defense,” he said. “If we create turnovers
and get out, get layups, and get to the free throw line and create for
others, I think that is how it starts. Once we get into the rhythm,
everyone is on the same page and we have shown we are hard to stop
when we get into our offensive flow, but it starts defensively.
Tonight, they got going early and it’s hard to stop a team when they
have confidence”

The Wizards were led by Kyle Kuzma (27 points, 13 rebounds) and ex-Knick Kristaps Porzingis
(22 points, 11 rebounds). Kuzma announced before the game that will donate $1 million dollars to
his hometown YMCA located in Flint, Michigan.

Knicks starting center Mitchell Robinson left the game with a
fractured thumb and will be evaluated after three weeks.
