The Knicks are tied at 1-1 in their best of seven game first around playoff series against the Atlanta Hawks. They should be up 2-0 however, but they blew a 13-point lead to start the fourth quarter of game two Monday night. Atlanta’s CJ McCullum had a game high 32 points and scored six huge points for Atlanta in the final 2:08 of regulation to help put the Knicks away.
McCullum did miss two free throws up one with seven seconds to go in the game. The Knicks rebounded the ball, passed ahead to swingman Mikal Bridges, who took a few dribbles, took a mid range jump shot for the win, and missed. “Yea, I just missed it, I got nothing wrong with it, I just gotta make it next time.” Bridges said of the shot after the game. Bridges shot a horrible 3 of 10 from the field and finished with ten points, one rebound, one assist, and one steal in 37 minutes of action.
Karl Anthony Towns scored 18 points on 8 of 12 shooting but didn’t see the ball nearly enough in the fourth quarter. Towns was the only Knicks starter who made more shots than he missed. “When it came down to it, CJ McCullum made some tough shots and you have to give credit where credit is due,” Towns said postgame. “Hell of a player and he’s been a hell of a player for a long time in this league, and I’ve got to do a better job making it more difficult for him.” Game three is Thursday night in Atlanta.
