The Philadelphia 76ers still have not reached the Eastern Conference Finals since Allen Iverson was breaking ankles on the court. 2001 Iverson won NBA MVP and went past the conference finals en route to the NBA Finals. The only Sixer to win NBA MVP since Iverson is current Sixers big man Joel Embid (2023) and he remains the only MVP winner in NBA history who has never reached the Eastern Conference Finals. After a stunning first-round comeback against the Celtics in which they came back from a 3-1 series deficit to beat Boston for the first time in team history without either Julius Erving or Wilt Chamberlain, they went on to face the New York Knicks in round two and were embarrassed.

The Sixers lost their final game 144-114 in Game 4 on Sunday afternoon. Embid who has been plagued by injuries his entire career and played just 19 games last season due to a bad knee, said he thought he was done physically during last offseason, and because of that his season was a positive.  “I know we lost and I know that’s not the right mentality to have but for me this (season) is a success,” Embid said after the game. I came into this year not knowing where I was going to be. How long I was going to play, if I was even going to play based on how the knee was the last few years. I came in hoping for the best and I feel like we are in a position where we figured out the knee. It hasn’t been an issue.”
