Soto Earning His Keep

The Yanks took 2 out of 3 from their division rivals, the Rays, after losing their first series of the season against the Blue Jays.

New York was silent in game 1 until a big 5 run 7th inning, off the back of a 3 run homer by Juan Soto, and a costly Rays’ error, gave them the lead. Soto is already proving his worth as the Yankees best hitter so far this season. Tampa had 14 hits to the Yankees 5, and almost rallied back in the 8th, but New York was able to steal a victory.

In game 2, the Yankees mustered just 4 hits, en route to being shutout in a brilliant performance by the Rays’ pitching, who struck out 9 batters and walked just one. On the other side of the mound, Nestor Cortes had a great showing himself, pitching 7 scoreless innings with 9 K’s. But sadly one of his best performances in recent memory went to waste, as the Yankee bats stayed dormant and Tampa won 2-0.

In a close game 3, 25-year old Luis Gil earned his first MLB win in 3 years, as New York held on to a one run lead to win 5-4. Tampa rallied back in the 8th once again, scoring 3 runs, but ultimately falling short.

The Yanks have now gone 5-6 since April 10th, after starting the season 10-2.
