It was a chaotic day for the Brooklyn Nets last Saturday night, with General Manager Sean Marks announcing that Kyrie Irving would return to the team to play in road games only and that Kevin Durant would join James Harden and several other players in COVID-19 Health and Safety Protocols. With Blake Griffin, who joined the team earlier in 2021 being the most tenured Net available for the team, it was an uphill climb, and it started that way, with the team trailing by as many as 17. But miraculously, the short-handed Nets were able to tie the game late at 93 and had a chance to pull out another improbable victory. But the Orlando Magic closed out the game on a 7-0 run and left Brooklyn with a 100-93 victory.

Patty Mills led Brooklyn with 23 points, while rookie David Duke Jr notched a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds, and Blake Griffin added 17.

Mills discussed the impact of the young players after the game. “Our young boys again being able to, every night, deliver that same amount of effort, it’s a credit to how much hard work they’ve put in since they’ve been here,” Mills said. “You see the caliber of players they are, the depth we have as well. These are all opportunities for all of them to come in and make an impact on an NBA game.”

Brooklyn’s games this past Sunday and Tuesday were postponed and they are scheduled to travel to Portland before facing the Lakers in Los Angeles on Christmas day.
