This game should have been a laugher for the New York Yankees. As starter Luis Severino was cruising along, the Bronx Bombers gave him early support jumping out to a 6-0 lead after 5 innings. From the start, Severino was on his game as he retired the first 14 batters he faced. He did allow a runner until the 5th inning giving up a walk. Then, Severino hit a bump in a road in the sixth when he up 3 runs (charged with 4) when he was removed.

The early lead was bolstered by first baseman Anthony Rizzo who blasted the first of his 3-home runs. The first in the 3rd inning with 2-runners on. His next at-bat in the 5th with one on. Rizzo’ s last dinger came as a single shot in the 8th.

Baltimore made a game of it as the New York bullpen struggled. They crept within 2-runs in the 7th inning (6-4) and then the Yankees thought they put the Orioles to sleep scoring 4 more runs in the 7th pushing the lead to 10-4 as Gleyber Torres smacked a bases clearing triple. Not to be outdone, Baltimore roared back as O’s Austin Hays smacked a 3-run homer off Jonathan Loaisiga the following inning cutting the lead to 2 (10-8).

New York added 2 more runs which included a solo blast by Aaron Judge. Closer Aroldis Chapman struck out 2 of the 3 players he faced in the 9th preserving the win.

Manager Aaron Boone said, “it’s not going to perfect every night,” as he saw his team win their 4th straight and 6th of their last 7th.

The series continues tonight as Yankees southpaw Jordan Montgomery (0-1, 2.51era) goes against Orioles Tyler Wells 0-2, 6.75 era) before the series ends in a matinee game Thursday.
