Any hope that the Giants and their legion of fans had for making the playoffs after a rocky start to the season came to an end on Sunday as Big Blue was beaten handily on the road by the New Orleans Saints 24-6.  With three games remaining, at 5-9, the Giants are two games behind the final wild card spot in the NFC with five teams ahead of them.

The Giants came into Sunday’s game on a three-game winning streak behind rookie quarterback Tommy Devito who had thrown five touchdowns and zero interceptions over that span. He did not turn the ball over against New Orleans, but he did not find the end zone either and completed 20 of 34 passes for 177 yards. New York’s all-purpose running back Saqoun Barkley was held in check all game long managing to rush for just 14 yards on nine carries and caught two passes for 23 yards. New Orleans quarterback Derek Carr threw three touchdowns including two in the second half after the Saints held a 7-6 lead after two quarters.  New Orleans running back Alvin Kamara ran for 66 yards and led the team in receiving yards with 44.

Said head coach Brian Daboll of the loss, “there’s work to be done.”

Big Blue travel to Philadelphia Christmas night to take on a Eagles team who lost for the third straight week to the Seattle Seahawks this past Monday night.
