Last year the Texas Rangers watched from the couch as their interstate rivals, the Houston Astros, won their second World Series. Now, after winning just 68 games last season, the Rangers beat Houston in a 7 game ALCS to capture their 3rd pennant since 2010.

Game 7 was a bloodbath, as Texas battered starter Christian Javier, scoring 3 in the 1st and forcing Houston to pull him after just 0.1 innings. Cory Seager, who has been struggling, got Texas started with a solo homer. Texas scored 8 by the 5th and Houston looked as if they were ready to call it quits right there.

The Astros’ bullpen had been exhausted by the 7 game series and was in no position to hold down the fort for 8+ innings. Houston played a whopping 8 pitchers, none of whom pitched more than 2 innings.

The star of the series, Adolis Garcia, continued to make the Astros pay for beaning him, as he finished the game with 4 hits, 5 RBI, and 2 big home runs. Garcia had 15 RBI in the series, the most by any player in any playoff series, ever.

The Rangers look to win their first World Series in franchise history against either the Diamondbacks or Phillies, having lost in their previous 2 appearances in 2010 and 2011. Arizona kept their season alive as they took out Philadelphia 5-1 to force a game 7 that took place Tuesday night.
