At one point, the New York Yankees were the Boston Red Sox daddies. Fast forward to recent times as the Houston Astros (after sweeping them in the ALCS) showed the Yankees who was their daddy. After the New England Patriots beat the New York Jets 10-3 for the 14th straight time, the Pats are now officially the New York Jets grand daddy, daddy and uncle.

Gang Green was coming off an impressive victory the week before taking down the Buffalo Bills. A win would put them in a first place tie in their division. That would not happen as once again quarterback Zach Wilson could not get his team in the end zone against Pats head coach Bill Belichick’s defense.

How bad was it for Wilson? By the end of the day, Wilson was horrendous completing 9 of 22 passes for only 77 yards. The loss dropped his record against New England to 0-4. A very sullen Wilson tried in vain to explain why he could not support a defense that until the game winning punt return, kept the Patriots at bay.

“Yeah, it’s super frustrating,” he began. “It was a frustrating day, of course. I feel like l had some balls that got away from. But we got to find a ways on offense. We got to do some digging, watch the film and see what we can do better.”

Over the last two seasons among quarterbacks in the league with at least 10 starts, the #2 pick in the draft, Wilson is 35th in total QBR, 35th in passing yards per game, last in yards per drop back and last in touchdown pass per attempt. Wilson’s performance had his second year head coach Robert Saleh fuming afterwards. “It was dog s..t,” when asked about the offensive performance that saw the team punt 10 times. One more than Wilson’s pass completion.

Monday afternoon when Saleh met with the media, he did not commit to Wilson starting when the Jets host the Chicago Bears. “We’re keeping everything on the table over the next couple of days,” he said. If Saleh decides to bench Wilson, Mike White will get the call. At this point, White can’t do any worse as the Jets (6-4) still have a legitimate shot at making the playoffs. The defense is doing their part. It’s time for the offense to contribute.
