The Knicks had their most impressive win in some time last Friday night when they acted a small measure of revenge by coming back from 21 points late in the third quarter to beat the Miami Heat 100-98. Six months after Miami knocked the Knicks out of last season’s playoffs.  One win in the regular season won’t change the results of last May’s playoff defeat but the win did move the Knicks one step closer to advancing to the quarterfinals of the NBA’s inaugural In-Season Tournament.

Each team plays four games in group play with four teams from each conference advancing to the quarterfinal knockout round. The Miami win was the Knicks third group play game and with a record of 2-1 in tournament play they were in the Eastern Conference’s fourth and final qualifying position.

After Miami lost to the Knicks on Friday night the Heat were in Brooklyn the next night and took another loss, this time to the Nets 112-97. Miami sat their two best players Bam Adebayo and Jimmy Butler in the latter game for rest purposes.  Adebayo and Butler led Miami in scoring in the Knicks game with 23 and 21 points respectively.
