Zack May Set Sack Record

This was not what the organization envisioned when they shipped Sam Darnold out of town, drafted Zack Wilson from BYU and hired defensive coordinator guru/player coach Robert Saleh. They traveled to the 2-0 Denver Broncos and were blitzed 26-0. Wilson (19-35, 160 yards, 2 int’s) was a human piñata as he was sacked 5 times and was hit another 9. Wilson is on pace to get sacked more than 80 times by seasons end. The rest of the offense has been just as putrid. Gang Green has not scored a touchdown in the last two games and have been outscored 46-3 in the first half of their three games. “We played hard but playing hard is not good enough,” said Saleh.

Denver scored on 2 of the first 3 times they touched the ball in the first quarter. Running back Javonte Williams ran it in from 1-yard out and Brandon McManus converted a 45-yard field goal giving them a 10-0 lead. The Broncos never looked back. The Jets punted 4 times in the first half as Denver expanded the lead to 17-0 after a 1-yard Melvin Gordon touchdown run.

New York’s defense only gave up 9 second half points (3 field goals) and Broncos quarterback Teddy Bridgewater (19-25, 235 yards) had a pedestrian type of day. Both Bridgewater and Darnold have won their 3 starts far this year.  Only three games into the season, Wilson’s confidence has to be questioned. “We need to keep our confidence high and understand that we’re in position for a reason and understand that we have talent, we have players, we have the coaches and the schemes to get the job done.”

After hosting the Tennessee Titans Sunday, the Jets travel to Atlanta, New England before hosting Cincinnati. Saleh and the organization have their work cut out for them.
