The very first NFL Black Friday game took place last Friday, November 24th as the New York Jets (4-6) hosted division rival Miami Dolphins (7-3) at MetLife Stadium. It was the first of two contests this season. Jets head coach Robert Saleh benched starting quarterback Zach Wilson in the third quarter the Sunday before in the loss to Buffalo. The day after, Saleh announced that Wilson would be benched for the remainder of the season and relegated him to third string quarterback behind starter Tim Boyle and second-string quarterback Trevor Siemian. In the end however, it was “The Same Old Jets” as Boyle could do nothing to jump start the offense.

Despite 2 Int’s Tua Leads Fish Over The Jets

Miami’s quarterback Tua Tagovailoa did everything in his power to keep the Jets in the game. Miami jumped out to a 10-0 lead after a Jason Sanders 38 yards field goal and a Tyreek Hill 7-yard touchdown catch. New York’s cornerback Brandin Echols then picks off Tag and returns the interception 30 yards for the touchdown cutting the lead to 10-6 as the normally reliable Greg Zurlein missed the extra point. That’s when a play broke the momentum and the back of the Jets.

This time, the Jets other cornerback D.J. Reed picks off Tua giving the ball back to Boyle at their own 49 with .2 seconds left before halftime. Boyle attempts a Hail Mary pass to the Dolphins goal line. The pass is not only picked off by Miami’s safety Jevon Holland but he returns 99-yards for the touchdown. Game, set and match as the Jets would not recover. Instead of only going into halftime down 4 (10-6) the lead increased to 17-6. Said head coach of the play, “it was just a very unfortunate play at the end of the half. We felt we had captured momentum, cut it to a 4-point game and gave it right back to them.”

Miami would add 17- second half point walking away with a 34-13 win. Tagovailoa finished the afternoon completing 21 of 30 passes for 243 yards and 1 touchdown. Boyle did nothing to improve the Jets anemic offense as completed 27 of 38 passes for 178 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception.

The postseason hopes are fading very fast as they get set to face the Atlanta Falcons Sunday. The Falcons are coming off a bye week. Saleh said Boyle will make his second straight start.
