Led by surprise starting quarterback Joe Flacco, who the New York Jets acquired in late October, the team put up a good fight against the Miami Dolphins at MetLife Stadium this past Sunday afternoon but missed field goals combined with one crucial red-zone fumble helped Miami get a 24-17 win.

Flacco (24 for 39, 291 yards, 2 td’s, no int’s) but it was a key sack and fumble lost by the veteran quarterback on a second and goal from the Miami five in the second quarter that cost the Jets an opportunity from putting a touchdown on the board. That, combined with two costly missed field goal attempts by Matt Ammendola, ultimately led to the demise of Gang Green.

“90% of the games in the league are lost, not won, and this one was lost,” Jets head coach Robert Saleh said after the game. “That’s 9, call it 12 points if the worst thing you get is a field goal,” he added. “If you’re just handing points back and you’re not scoring when you have a chance, you’re not going to win.”

Flacco commented on the costly turnovers after the game. “I feel like just as an offense, myself included, as a whole today we did some good things, but we made too many mistakes to win the football game,” he said.

Dolphins Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (27 of 33, 273 yards, 2 td’s, 1 int) gave the Jets defense fits all afternoon. With the game tied at 7, Tua connected with wide receiver Mack Hollis for the 65-yard touchdown pass. “Definitely a big play for us,” Tua said after.

The Jets head to Houston to battle the Houston Texans on Sunday before returning home to face the Philadelphia Eagles the following Sunday.
