Kevin Durant was at his best Monday night, scoring a season-high 45 points on a spectacular 19-24 from the field, as the Brooklyn Nets won back-to-back games to get off to a 2-0 start on a seven-game home stand at Barclays Center.

Said Durant of his masterful performance and whether or not he ever has a clue that a big scoring night is coming, “respectfully, I feel like I’m always on,” a confident Durant replied. “I feel like I always, even if I’m not making shots that night, I feel like my jump shot is always sharp.” Sharp it was.

Durant continued to give insight into his approach to the game. “I just got to see how the game has been played, see how the defense is being played, what my teammates are doing as well,” he added. “Mainly, if my mind is in the right place coming into the game, as far as following the game plan, I feel like that’s when I had solid games.”

Brooklyn head coach Jacque Vaughn discussed Durant’s excellence. “At this stage in age of his career, I mean the minutes he played, what he did last night to lead us into a win is huge,” he said. “I think it shows the preparation that he puts into his body, what he feels about the game. He approaches it like we have to win this game.”

Kyrie Irving, who scored 20 points, discussed the approach to getting Durant the ball when hot. “When he’s got it going like, we don’t want to force him the ball, but we definitely want to let him work,” Irving explained.

All wasn’t great on Brooklyn’s side, as Ben Simmons left the game with left knee soreness. There is no timetable for his return.
