Judge On The Mend

Boone Move Backfires Yanks In Last Place
When the New York Yankees began their last road trip that began April 24th, their record was 13-9. Captain Aaron Judge was healthy and they were tied for third place in the American League East. When they began a 6-game home stand against the Cleveland Guardians Monday night, they had lost 7 of their last 10 games, including their 3-2 loss against Cleveland which extended their losing streak to 4 games. Making matters worse was the decision to put Judge on the injured list with a sore hip suffered last Thursday. It is expected that Judge will miss the next 6 games.

The loss dropped their record to 15-15 and they sit alone in last place. With Judge out, the Bronx Bombers have scored only 6 runs in the last 4 games.

New York wasted a stellar pitching performance Monday night as starter Domingo German through only 88 pitches as he started the ninth inning with the team leading 2-0. Manager Aaron Boone decided to go to the bullpen and the move backfired. Boone calls on reliever Clay Holmes who promptly gives up 2-runs, two hits failing to get one out. Boone pulls Holmes and summoned Wendy Peralta who promptly walks in the winning run. Said Boone of the decision to pull German, “I just thought it was the right decision to do that there. Obviously, it didn’t work out, so ultimately that falls on me. Domingo was great but l wasn’t let him go back around there with the tying runs coming to the plate.”

After the Cleveland series, the Yankees go on the road for 3-games against the Tampa Bay Rays. They come home for a 7-game home stand from May 8th thru May 14th. They could sure use Judge back and healthy in the line-up.
