The Houston Astros won the 2022 World Series last Sunday night, defeating the Philadelphia Phillies in six games. The win marks the second time Houston has won the fall classic since 2017. It is however, the first championship has won since a cheating scandal they were involved in, where they were found to have stolen signs during the 2017 season from the opposing pitchers and catchers through the use of electronics which is against the rules. This World Series win now validates this team that has been to six consecutive American League Championship Series and Four World Series appearance in the last six seasons.

This is the first World Series championship for Astros manager Dusty Baker after 25 years as a manager. Baker is ninth on the all-time wins listHe is the third African American manager to win a World Series following Cito Gaston in 1992 & 1993. Dave Roberts won the World Series in 2020 guiding the Los Angeles Dodgers.

On the field, there were zero black U.S born players in the World Series for the first time since 1950 as black Americans continue to represent just 8% of MAjor League ball players.

Astros shortstop Jeremy Pena was named World Series Most Valuable Player following up his MVP in the American League Championship Series.
