Northwestern University had something to show for their efforts in Brooklyn last weekend before meeting the grim reaper in the form of college basketball’s reigning National Champs. Northwestern was part of the most exciting game played at Barclay’s Center over the weekend, the first game of the two-day event, a game where they outlasted Florida Atlantic University 77-65 in overtime. After beating FAU, who made the Final Four a season ago, in front of many Wildcat fans in a packed arena, it did not make a difference in the second round on Sunday night as the UConn Huskies steamrolled through them 75-58. The score was not even that close, as FAU trailed by more than 20 for most of the contest.

“It feels great,” UConn guard Tristen Newton said after scoring a game high 20 points. “We have a big picture that we want to go to, and we have to take it one step at a time, so getting to a sweet 16 is just another step towards our main goal and it feels good.”

UConn will make a pit stop back in Storrs Connecticut before beginning the Sweet 16 in Boston Thursday night.
