Only the New York Jets can do this. We have seen them lose in embarrassing ways in the past. Most notably the infamous Mark Sanchez “Butt Fumble” against the New England Patriots. The loss this past Sunday to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers took Gang Green to a new type of low.

The Jets had to start veteran Tyrod Taylor as stater Justin Fields did not pass the concussion protocol test after suffering the concussion the previous week in the loss to the Buffalo Bills. Taylor and the offense struggled early as they only scored 6 first half points as the Bucs jumped out to a 20-6 lead. New York failed to put points on the board in the third quarter as Tampa extended the lead to 23-6 looking as if the game would be a runaway. Then, with the help of their defense and special team, they woke up in the final quarter.

It began with a Taylor to wide receiver Garrett Wilson for a 11-yard touchdown pass cutting the lead 23-13. The defense did it’s part getting the offense the ball back and watched as Taylor got them into the end zone in 11 plays, 73 yards as he found wide receiver Allan Lazard for the 4-yard touchdown pass. Then, the unthinkable happened.

Bucs field goal kicker Chase McLaughlin attempted a 43-yard field goal when Jets defensive end Will McDonald busts through the line and blocked the kicked. McDonald had the presence of mind to scoop up the football and scampered 50 yards giving New York a short lived 27-26 lead.

Tampa Bay’s quarterback Baker Mayfield moved team down 48 yards in 7 plays and this time McLaughlin got the kick off converting the 36 yard field goal coming away with the 29-27 win. It dropped the Jets to 0-3 under first year head coach Aaron Glenn.

Said Glenn after the heart wrenching loss, “there’s no such things as moral victories when it comes to us,” he began. “I’m looking forward to our next challenge. We’re going to work next week, look at the things we need to fix and we’re going to hone in on that.”

They travel to Miami to face the 0-3 Dolphins who lost to the Buffalo Bills. Someone’s “O” will go.
