This past Monday night, the New York Yankees moved to 2 games ahead of the Orioles (Baltimore lost to the Astros 6-3) for the top spot in the AL East, for the first time since they lost the lead to them back in late June.

New York has also held 1st place for more than 2 days for the first time since late June, and now has the best record in the American League. This comes after they took 2 out of 3 games from the AL Central leading Cleveland Guardians, and defeated the Colorado Rockies in the first game of their series.

In game 1 of the Guardians series, the Yankees lost the longest game of the season yet in disappointing fashion. With both teams tied and scoreless for 7 innings until the 12th, the Guards bombed New York for a 6 run inning that included a 3 run triple off the bat of David Fry. Despite the loss both Aaron Judge and Juan Soto homered.

In game 2, the Yankees answered back with an 8-1 blowout, as Nestor Cortes dominated on the mound, allowing just 3 baserunners and 0 runs over 7 innings. Judge and Soto both homered once again, for the 11th time this year, as the team improved to 9-2 when both its best hitters go long. Soto’s 36 home runs this year are a career high in bud young illustrious career.

In the last game of the series, Yankee pitching dominated once again, with Gerrit Cole giving up just 1 hit in 6 innings as the Guardians were shut out. Judge and Giancarlo Stanton both homered en route to victory.

Jazz Chisholm was activated for game 1 against the Rockies, after a UCL sprain. The fiery new addition underwent a minimal stay on the IL, and has been revving to get back on the field.

Another multi-position infielder, DJ Lemahieu, was scrapped from the lineup ahead of the game after taking a ball to the face during warmups.

Now, the Yanks and Rockies are tied one game apiece in their 3 game series after Colorado’s 9-2 blowout against the young Will Warren and the Yanks, today. Aaron Judge homered for the 4th straight game in game 1.

The Bronx Bombers began a 3 game series in Washington Monday night and took game 1 5-2. They come home and play a 3 game set against the St. Louis Cardinals.
