The NBA Finals got underway Thursday night, and it is a power packed matchup between the Dallas Mavericks and the Boston Celtics whose 64 wins were seven more than any team in the NBA. It is 17 more wins than the Mavericks. But the Mavericks have been the more impressive team in the playoffs knocking off three teams that won 50 games or more this season, on their way to the NBA Finals.

The Celtics have lost just two games through the first three rounds of the playoffs but their opponent in each series were either without their best player or their best player missed most of the series due to injury. So, Boston has not faced a serious test thus far. Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving returns to Boston after leaving them high and dry in 2019 to play in Brooklyn. Boston center Kristaps Porzingis is expected to return after missing the last two series with a calf injury. Porzingis played with Dallas from 2019-2022. The spotlight matchup in this series will be Dallas’ two stars of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving against Boston’s star duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

The New Beacon says that the Dallas Mavericks will win the championship denying the Boston Celtics their 18th championship.
