Davis 28-0 Fought January 2023
By Joshua Garcia

Picture a red carpet, two of sports’ most prolific figures, drama and celebrities. No, it’s not the Academy Awards, rather it’s a date between the controversial Tank Gervonta Davis and the Fashion Nova model Ryan Garcia, as they are better known on the street. Let’s dub the event the hype bowl if you will, because we know neither fighter desires to stay away from the limelight in some fashion or another, as we have already seen both men flocking accordingly to the hottest flame of the boxing calendar year so far.
Errol Spence and Terence Crawford may receive most of the attention from die hard boxing fans, but the matchup between the Baltimore, Maryland product in Gervonta Davis, and his star-studded opponent in Southern California’s Ryan Garcia will gain by far more attention from the casuals, which are promoter’s true targets. Boxing purist will be attentive to a fight regardless, this one however, will pull in that Super Bowl commercial crowd.
Both Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia have risen in popularity at an astounding rate and that jolt in stardom has sent these two incredible talents on a collision course toward each other, and someone will likely taste the first loss of their career on April 22nd at the T Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Davis enters with a record of 28-0 while his opponent across the ring Garcia holds a 23-0 tally, and their pathways to this point could not have been more different.
Davis has encountered very little trouble inside the squared circle, his only challenges have come outside the ring while dealing with stardom money and growing as an adult. Ryan Garcia on the other hand has dealt with focus, as many other areas of interest have called the young superstar including modeling and becoming the first ever American Boxer to appear in a Gatorade commercial, co-starring with the NBA’s Damian Lillard.
A large layoff may be significant in this fight, while Davis just fought and won in January of 2023, Garcia has not stepped through the ropes since last July. Inactivity is always a negative in boxing, although Garcia has an infamously tough work ethic once he’s focused, and the lack of rounds may be somewhat lessened from a longer training camp. Going up against a world class talent like Davis as a decided underdog is going to require impeccable strength and endurance to take the April 22nd fight into deep waters and into the later rounds.
Ryan Garcia has consistently been questioned about his wins, dedication, and ability due to lack of contending opponents. Garcia has a golden chance to change that narrative completely. While Gervonta Davis has an opportunity to gain even more notoriety, which may be the only thing he has lacked in his career as of yet. Ryan Garcia brings pay per view sales and attention, something Davis may crave even more than a belt, and he can add those fans to his team with a great performance against the So Cal kid that some have coined “Oscar De La Hoya 2.0.”
Gervonta Davis, when asked about the upcoming matchup with Ryan Garcia and being hailed as such a large favorite according to oddsmakers around the country replied, “I still have to respect him as a fighter but I feel as though he’s not on my level as far as skills.” Following that statement Davis went on to say however, that he promises an early stoppage of the renowned trainer Joe Goosen’s newest pupil, Ryan Garcia. The wildcard is which version of each gladiator will we see come fight night, as both have answered the bell in their careers so far. Which will take the next step on April 22nd?
