The biggest rivalry in sports took another chapter when the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox faced each other Tuesday night in Beantown. The one game wild card showdown will determine who moves on to the next round to the playoffs. The Bronx Bombers had to win the last game of the season in order to play their 162nd o the year. They beat Toronto 1-0 last Sunday. The winning team would face the Tampa Bay Rays in the best of five games. The last time the teams met, the Yankees swept Boston at Fenway Park. New York sent high priced free agent Gerrit Cole while Boston countered with Nathan Evoldi. Cole struggled in his last start giving up 5 runs in 6 innings. He has battled a hamstring injury and will be on a short leash if he starts of slow.

This will be the fifth time both teams will meet in the postseason and there is no love lost between the organization. The owner of the Red Sox Larry Luccino labeled the Yankees organization the “Evil Empire.”

The Yankees season was a rollercoaster ride as they dealt with winning streaks and losing streak putting them in the position where they can extend their year or end up going home again without making it to the World Series. Their last appearance was 2009 when they beat the Philadelphia Phillies in 6 games.
