The New York Football Giants took one on the chin last Thursday night as they were beaten by the San Francisco 49ers out west 30-12. They were up against it from the outset without their best player, running back Saquon Barkley, who injured his ankle the previous game versus Arizona.

The Giants did have the man who they are paying four times as much as Saquon, quarterback Daniel Jones, and his performance fell short again. The Giants $40 million dollar man threw for 132 yards, no touchdowns, one interception, and he rushed for just five yards. Through the first three games Jones has thrown two touchdowns, run for one, and thrown four interceptions.

San Francisco got 129 receiving yards from wide receiver Deebo Samuel who brought the physicality all night to the Giants defense. 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy threw for 310 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. San Francisco is one of three 3-0 teams to start the season.  The 49ers, one of the NFL’s storied franchises, have won five Super Bowls but their last one was in the 1994.

The Giants don’t play again until Monday night at home against Seattle and ex-Giants and Jets quarterback Geno Smith where they hope to have Barkley back.
