They say the two greatest words in sports are Game 7, but in the boxing world, they are Fight Week! Events as unique as the sport itself, the sweet science will be again on full display as the planet will pause when Terence Bud Crawford and Errol Spence Jr. finally stand toe-to-toe on the Las Vegas Strip.

The 147-pound division has provided so many memories over the years, Leonard-Hearns, Leonard-Duran, De La Hoya-Whitaker, and we can just go ahead and pencil in Spence-Crawford now. The much-awaited bout will no doubt set records with box office and pay-per-view buys, but it is what it will do for the fight game that will make the lasting impact.

Multiple African-American fighters in their primes, in the same division, is exactly what the boxing world has been clamoring for. What many have said is missing from the sport for decades. All the complaints about the lack of personalities and negligence in promoters’ match making in boxing will need to be laid to rest after this instant classic of a matchup.

Errol Spence Jr. And Terence Crawford have officially changed the negative narrative surrounding boxing with their monumental fight. Not only will we see top notch displays in the ring but the power has now shifted from promoters to the fighters in what will be their lasting impact here, business negotiations.

Saturday’s fight at T Mobile Arena in Las Vegas has set the bar for fighters in the future. There will be no more strong arming from promoters in the negotiations and preventing fighters of different entertainment organizations from facing their ideal opponent and ones in which make them the most financial and career gains.

Of the many elements of this groundbreaking bout on Showtime, the fact Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr. forced their way into the ring and pushed their promoters to make it happen has created a paradigm shift that will ripple through the sport’s immediate future. So many aspects will be impressive from a fight that will be talked about for decades, but never forget the behind the scenes work that both these incredible fighters did for the business of the sweet science.

Editor’s Note: In what will be a very close fight, the New Beacon sees Terrance Crawford coming out on top with a split decision.
