Behind Giancarlo Stanton’s 350th career home run in the 1st inning and Jordan Montgomery throwing 5.2 inning of  2-run ball, the Yankees rolled over the pesky Baltimore Orioles 5-2 on a windy, chilly night at Yankee Stadium. Said Montgomery of pitching in such conditions, “you want to pitch in the cold in October, anyway, you might as well practice now.” The bullpen was stellar as Michael King and Clay Holmes combined in throwing 3.1 shutout innings giving up only 1 hit while striking out 5 on a night when manager Aaron Boone gave closer Aroldis Chapman a night off as the team will close out the series with a afternoon game today.

Stanton picked up where he left off the game before where he had 2 hits. Prior to that, he had only 2 hits in his previous 27 at-bats. “We got a good thing going on here, Stanton said after. “We just have to keep working and pushing.”

As they did the night before in coming from behind in the 12-8 loss, the Baltimore Orioles would not go away quietly. They tied the game at 2 after an Anthony Santander 2-run homer. New York would put the game away adding 3 more runs before the 9th. The first on a Stanton sacrifice fly. Joey Gallo, after reaching the seats 3 times the night before, blast a solo shot and DJ LeMahieu scores on a wild pitch.

It was the Yankees 5th straight win and 6th in their last 8 games. Manager Aaron Boone has noticed the team is clicking on all cylinders. “This is a focused group,” he began. I feel our focus is in all the right places. Pitching, defense, base running and offense. It’s good to see them getting results.”

Prior to the game and on the field, Latino Sports President Julio Pabon presented it’s 2021 American League Latino MVP Relief Pitcher/Closer Award to Nicaraguan born Jonathan Loaisiga. The watercolor portrait was done by sports artist Maz Adams including the logo of Latino Sports. “This really means a lot to me,” said Loaisiga.
