Second-Worst Plus/Minus of the Season for Wembanyama

The San Antonio Spurs spent the weekend in New York City and split games between the two city teams. Last Thursday night the Spurs beat the Brooklyn Nets 126-110. New York native and former St Johns star Julian Champagnie led all players with 26 points. All five San Antonio players scored in double figures. San Antonio’s all-world star 7-foot 5 Victor Wembanyama finished with 12 points, which is not a lot for him, but that’s all that was needed on this night. The game was the final one on the schedule for the Spurs in February, and they finished the month 11-0.
The Spurs next game was Sunday afternoon against the Knicks at Madison Square Garden. The Spurs had been in the city since the victory in Brooklyn. So, the 1:00 start time on Sunday afternoon probably was not the easiest spot for them after several days and nights enjoying the city. The Spurs lost their 11-game win streak as they fell to the Knicks 114-89. “We gave them life. We should have been better, especially on that run in the first quarter,” said Wembanyama, referring to a 26-2 run that the Knicks went on that spanned through the first and second quarters, after the Spurs started the game with a 19-7 lead. “I think that was the game. I think when we look at them you can take an example on how to come back in the game because we were dominating at first.” Wembanyama tied Knicks forward Mikal Bridges for a game high 25-points, but Wemby turned the ball over seven times which also was a game high.
