The New York Liberty hosted their first WNBA Finals game in 21 years on Sunday afternoon at Barclays Center in front of a sellout crowd in Game 3 of the best of five game series.  The Liberty won 84-73 over the reigning WNBA champion Las Vegas Aces to push the series to Game 4 Wednesday night in Brooklyn.  New York got a game high 27 points from 2021 WNBA MVP Jonquel Jones and 20 points from this season’s league MVP Breanna Stewart.

The Aces won the first two games of the series in convincing fashion in Las Vegas which put the Liberty in a peculiar situation. No team in WNBA history has ever come back from 0-2 down in any round to win the series. The Aces are trying to become the first team to win back-to-back titles since the Los Angeles Sparks in 2001 and 2002 while the Liberty are trying to win the first championship in the 27-year history of the franchise. Through eight total meetings this season both teams have won four games, and every game has been decided by double digits except for a nine-point Liberty victory on August 28th in Brooklyn.
