Towns Big Night Against Brooklyn

The Brooklyn Nets lost the battle of the borough Sunday, as they fell to the New York Knicks in a 134-98 loss Sunday night at Madison Square Garden.
The Nets trailed throughout the game, but showed promise when they outscored the Knicks 40-37 in the second quarter alone. Following halftime they fell behind as the Knicks picked up the pace and increased the scoring gap further decreasing the possibility of a comeback.
“They make a run and, yeah that’s deflating and that’s not what you want and it happened and we got to learn from it and we all need to grow really really fast because this is not what we want going forward,” said Brooklyn Nets Head Coach Jordi Fernández.
Brooklyn trailed New York 40-22 at the end of the first quarter, 77-62 at halftime, and 112-79 by the end of the third quarter.
“They were knocking down 3’s,” said New York Knicks Head Coach Mike Brown said about the Nets in the second quarter. “They were playing with pace, especially in the half court, and they got offensive rebounds. We didn’t do as good of a job defensively as we were capable of, but our guys changed it in the second half.”
The Nets had 10 offensive rebounds in the first half of the game and the Knicks had eight. “The fight was there but it was just not good enough,” Fernández said.
Michael Porter Jr. led the Nets with 25 points and Drake Powell added 15.
“I’m very happy how he played and like I said how he impacts the game on both ends,” Fernandez said about Powell.
Karl-Anthony Towns led New York with 28 points. OG Anunoby and Jalen Brunson added 19 each.
The Nets concluded the night with a 1-9 record. The team next takes on the Toronto Raptors Monday evening in Brooklyn. The Knicks hosted Memphis Tuesday night and Orlando Wednesday night. They are 5-0 at the Garden.
