25 Not Enough For Wemby In Loss To NY

The San Antonio Spurs were riding high when they strutted into Madison Square Garden Sunday afternoon. They came into the Worlds Greatest Arena with a 11-game winning streak with an MVP and Defensive Player of the Year candidate in center Victor Wembanyama. At the start, it looked like the win streak would extend to 12 games as the Spurs jumped out to a 19-7. The Knicks would regroup and finish the quarter on a 15-2 run, taking a 22-21 lead going into the second quarter. New York outscored San Antonio 29-20 taking a 51-41 halftime lead. Captain Jalen Brunson led the Knicks with 16 points while Wemby scored 13 for the Spurs.
The third quarter belonged to Knicks forward Mikal Bridges. After scoring only 9 points in the first half, Bridges erupts finishing with 23 points as the New York went up 80-69 on their way to the 114-89 win. All 5 Knicks starters posted double figures and power forward Mohamed Diawara came off the bench to add 14 points, nailing 4, 3 pointers. Said Diawara after the game, “you got to be ready. It’s my first year in the league. I’m a rookie so l know i’m not going to play in all of the games, but I’ve got to be ready to hear my name get called.”
The New York Knicks hosted the Oklahoma City Thunder Wednesday night hoping to extend their winning streak. They then go on a
5-game road trip visiting Denver, Lakers, Clippers, Utah and Indiana.
