It was the longest losing streak the New York Knicks had dealt with this season season. When they hosted the Los Angeles Clippers Wednesday night, they had lost their last 4 games. Two of those games on their home court against the Atlanta Hawks and division rival Philadelphia 76ers. The Clippers have had their own problems this year as they came into the game with a record of 12-23. After starting the year at 2-2, they had lost 15 of their last 19 games which included losing streaks of 6 and 10 games straight. The Clippers were riding a 6 game winning streak coming into New York. At the start of the game, it looked the winning would continue for Los Angeles and the losing would continue for the Knicks.

The Clippers came out swinging taking a 14-5 lead while the Knicks missed their first first 4 shots forcing head coach Mike Brown to call a early time out. New York responded by outscoring Los Angeles 22-17 to end the quarter down 4, 31-27. James Harden scored 9 for LA while Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby both scored 7.

The teams went back and forth in the second quarter with no lead more than 7 points (LA 47-40) as the Knicks clamped down on Harden as he only scored 3 points. Clippers Kawhi Leonard picked up the slack. After scoring only 6 first quarter points, Leonard scored 15 as LA took a 55-51 halftime lead. Knicks Miles McBride led New York (11) finished the half with 14. The second half was all New York led by center Karl-Anthony Towns.
The “Big Bodega” struggled in the loss to Detroit in the previous game. Kat scored only 6 points in the first have against the Clippers. In scoring 10 points in 3rd quarter, Towns helped the Knicks outscore Los Angeles 39-31 as the team took a 90-87 lead going into the final quarter. As the defense shut down Harden earlier, they shifted their focus on Leonard as he only scored 4 points.
In outscoring the Clippers 33-24 in the 123-111 win, New York had 6 players score in double figures led by Brunson with 26. Said Brown after, “l thought our guys did a really good job of trying to be physical without fouling,” he began. On defending Leonard and Harden, Brown said, “OG obviously has tough assignment every night but he guarded Kawhi quite a bit tonight. He was fantastic, trying to be physical and challenging shots without fouling. Mikel also guarded James Harden and did a heck of a job doing that.”
The New York losing streak is over and now they look to start a new winning streak when go out west for their next 4 games. It begins Friday night in Phoenix followed by Portland Sunday, Sacramento Wednesday and concluding the following night against Golden State.
