Karl Anthony Towns returned after a one game absence to score 14 points and pull down 16 rebounds to go along with a steal and two blocked shots. Knicks forward OG Anunoby finished with 13 points but also tied team highs with two steals and two blocks. “OG was our defensive player of the game, switching back and forth between Josh and Mikal guarding Barnes and Ingram, great game by all three of our guys defensively against those two guys,” Knicks Head Coach Mike Brown said postgame. Referring to the Knicks holding Toronto’s top two scorers to 31 and 13 points respectively. “We were definitely on a string (defensively) and every time the ball moved all five guys moved, all five guys were in sync.”
While it counted in the regular season standings the game was also the quarterfinals of the NBA’s third annual NBA Cup Tournament. This is the third year of the event and the Knicks have reached the quarterfinal round all three years, but this is the first time they busted through to the semifinals of the event.
