Fast start for Maye in first half

Vrabel Leads Patriots To AFC East Title

The New York Jets lost to the New England Patriots 42-10 in their final home game of the season Sunday at MetLife Stadium.
Brady Cook filled in at quarterback as first year head coach Aaron Glenn said Tyrod Taylor was out do to a personal issue. Multiple factors contributed in the loss, as key players on the Jets faced injuries and the Patriots led by Drake Maye could not be held back from scoring as they had their 13th win of the season.
“We just have to do a better job on the defensive side,” said linebacker Jermaine Johnson about the difficulty of getting to Maye.
Cook completed 19 of 33 passes for 152 yards and had one interception. Maye completed 19 of 21 passes for 256 yards and threw five touchdowns and zero interceptions.
“He’s very comfortable with his wide receivers and his offense, in the pocket also,” said Jets’ linebacker Quincy Williams about trying to contain Maye. “You have to get pressure to him, but the main thing is that when you get pressure to him, he already knows what he’s doing with the ball.”
However, the Jets’ defense managed one quarterback sack and had more combined tackles and assists than the Patriots. New York had 63 combined tackles and assists and New England had 58. Cook was sacked by the Patriots once.
Yet injuries plagued the Jets. Qwan’tez Stiggers, who led New York’s defense with 10 combined tackles and assists, including a a tackle on wide receiver Stefon Diggs at the end of the second quarter, later left the game to be examined by medical staff for a knee injury.
Following the game Glenn said running back Isaiah Davis would be in concussion protocol and offensive guard Josh Simpson and RB Breece Hall each had a knee injury.
New York trailed 14-0 at the end of the first quarter, but were on the scoreboard after a 39-yard field goal by kicker Nick Folk when 9:56 remained in the second quarter. The Jets trailed 35-3 at halftime. Breece Hall rushed 59-yards for the Jets’ first touchdown of the game in the fourth quarter.
“We just have to get over that hump to be able to get to the next level of where we want to be as far as winning games,” Glenn said.
The Jets travel to Buffalo for their final game of the season. Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is expected to start but may play for only one series. New England clinched the AFC East for the first time since 2019 with the Bills losing to the Eagles and the Patriots’ win. It was the first year for head coach and former player Mike Vrabel.
“I don’t think it’s quite time for reflecting on the whole season,” Cook said. “I think the people in this room, the people in this locker room, we need to stay in, stay together for one more week and figure out how we can go put a good product on the field.”
