The New York Jets made the Jacksonville Jaguars look like Super Bowl contenders and their quarterback Trever Lawrence look like a MVP candidate last Sunday as the Jets got shredded in the 48-20 loss. The Gang Green paper mache defense allowed Lawrence to throw 5 touchdowns and run for another. He completed 20 of 32 passes for 320 yards. The Jags jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead as Lawrence threw 1 touchdown and ran 15 yards for the next score. Brady Cook, starting for first time this year threw a 9 yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Adonai Mitchell to cut the deficit to 14-7. That’s the closest the Jets would get as the rout began.
Before you knew it, the Jags outscored the Jets 31-13 over the next 3 quarters. Cook finished his day throwing for 176 yards as he completed 22-33 passes and was intercepted 3 times.
As a result of allowing 48 points, the Jets fired defensive coordinator Steve Wilks who was in his first year and was hired by first year head coach Aaron Glenn. Said Glenn in removing Wilks, “I felt it was the best decision for the organization at this time. I’ve said this all along. I’m evaluating players. I’m evaluating coaches. I’m evaluating myself. I just felt this was the best decision right now for the team and for this organization.” Defensive backs coach and passing game coordinator Chris Harris was named interim defensive coordinator.
The New York Jets Gave up 34 points to the Miami Dolphins 2 weeks ago at MetLife Stadium and 48 points to Jacksonville. Their record going into the game at New Orleans against the Saints is 3-11. The Saints (4-10) upset the Carolina Panthers (7-7) 20-17 who are looking to get into playoffs as a wildcard team. The Panthers still have a chance to win their division.
