Men’s College Basketball’s reigning National Champion UConn Huskies did something last weekend that they were not able to do last season and that’s win the Big East Tournament with a 73-57 win over Marquette in the Big East Final Saturday night. Donovan Clingan had a game high 22 points for UConn and Tristen Newton had 13 points.  Each team had just two players score in double figures in a game that was sluggish to begin.  Connecticut did not score their first basket until Samson Johnson dunked the ball six minutes and thirty-one seconds into the game which tied the score at two.  At the first official timeout with 11:20 remaining the score was 4-4.

“We saw shots weren’t falling, so we just gutted it out and kept doing what we were doing and really just talked about defense.” Clingan said after the game.  “I don’t feel like we were nervous.  They were playing good defense, and we were playing good defense,” said Newton.  “It’s just the shot wasn’t falling, and we got to the huddle, and we knew coach did a good job of telling us we were doing a great job on defense.  They had two points, and it was 2-0 for a long time.”
