The UConn Huskies fell to St John’s University 72-52 in the Big East Tournament Final at Madison Square Garden on Saturday night. The Huskies were in a hole early as they fell down 10-0 to start the game. “Huge credit to St John’s, they jumped us to start the game, I think we knew there would be a very forceful response from them,” UConn Head Coach Danny Hurley said after the game. Referring to the fact that UConn beat St John’s by 32 points the last time they played on February 25th in Hartford. The usually hot-tempered Hurley was taking the calm approach with his team. “I’m not going to make the same mistakes with this team. I didn’t crush them in there. They’re crushed, the group is crushed. We laid an egg, and it’s something that we desperately wanted to win.
We just laid an egg.” He said the team will watch video edits of the game the following morning the same way they did after losing the 2023 Big East Tournament. They would go on to win the NCAA Tournament after that. Tarris Reed Jr. had team highs of 17 points and 7 rebounds for UConn.
