The Marquette Golden Eagles, once projected to finish ninth in the preseason coaches’ poll, won the Big East regular season title with a 17-3 conference record (25-6 overall), and will be the No. 1 seed for the 2023 Men’s Basketball Big East Tournament at Madison Square Garden in New York City for the 40th consecutive year. The 11-team tournament kicked this past Wednesday afternoon with the championship game to be played on Saturday, March 11.

Including Marquette, 4 of the conference’s teams, Xavier, Creighton, UConn and Providence, seeds No. 2 – No. 5, respectively in the conference tournament, are safe-to-be locks for the NCAA Tournament regardless of their outcomes this week. Other Big East programs, such as Villanova and Seton Hall, both led by first year head coaches Kyle Neptune, who guided the Wildcats to a strong regular season finish, winning 6 of the team’s final 8 games, and Shaheen Halloway, who orchestrated the Saint Peter’s Peacocks run to the Elite Eight in last year’s NCAA Tournament, respectively, will most likely need the automatic bid via the conference championship in order to secure its spot for the NCAA Tournament.

The Big East Tournament promises to be an exciting and competitive event with fans and alumni of all the schools selling out the World’s Most Famous Arena.
