After another disappointing season in which the New York Football Giants fired their head coach Brian Daboll, finished the season with a 4 and 13 record, Big Blue hired one of the most respected head coaches in the game. John Harbaugh was the head coach for the Baltimore Ravens for the last 18 years. He guided them to the playoffs 12 times, winning the Super Bowl in 2013 against his brother Jim in what was dubbed the “Harbaugh Bowl”. John was also named NFL Coach of the year in 2019. When the Ravens failed to make the playoffs after starting the season 1-5, Harbaugh was let go. Tuesday afternoon, the Giants introduced him as the teams 21st head coach.

The Giants went on a full court press when they found out Harbaugh was available. They did not consider nor attempted to interview the other 8 head coaches who were fired after the last game of the regular season. General manager Joe Schoen and senior personnel manager Chris Mara met with Harbaugh and offered him 1 5-year $100 million dollar deal. Harbaugh did his due diligence by reaching out to ex-Giants Michael Strahan, Eli Manning and former head coach Tom Coughlin. As impressive as they were, it was rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart that really got his attention. Said Harbaugh of the meeting, “you want to to to know the quarterback. That’s really important.”

Said Shoen of Harbaugh before he introduced him to the media, “John has built a foundation of culture, player development and toughness. When we set out we were looking for a proven winner and an elite leader. Fortunately, we found both. He’s a proven winner.” Harbaugh then stepped to the podium to a round of applause from family, friends, current and former players. “This is a profound honor to be entrusted the responsibility or coaching the New York Football Giants,” he began. “I wanted this job. To be on the biggest stage in the biggest sport. I know the challenges, l understand the expectations, l know the fans are hungry for a winner. We’re here with one mission. To become, to earn the right to be called the world champions in New York.”

The New York Giants have not won a Super Bowl since 2012. They have one playoff appearance during that time when they beat the Minnesota Vikings in the 2022 wild card game. This past season they blew double digit leads in 5 games.

The New York Football Giants made a statement when they hired John Harbaugh. The fan base can’t wait any longer.
