Over the weekend, the New York Knicks won consecutive games over Houston and Chicago. Last Saturday night, the Knicks came from 18 points down in the fourth quarter against Houston to snatch the win. They led by as much as 13 points in the first quarter but blew the lead and were down by one at halftime. Houston then outscored the Knicks by 15 points in the third quarter before the Knicks spectacular comeback in the final period. Karl Anthony Towns scored 14 of his team-high 25 points for New York in the third quarter. Kevin Durant finished with 30 points for the Rockets, but the Knicks caused him to shoot a poor 10 of 26 from the field. New Knick Jose Alvarado was instrumental in the Knicks comeback and finished the game with five steals, including two critical swipes with under two minutes to go in the game. The performance marked the second time in Alvarado’s first five games as a Knick that he recorded five steals. “Rick Brunson was the one that suggested throwing Jose in the game at that time which was the right call,” said Knicks Head Coach Mike Brown after the game about his assistant head coach and new addition Jose Alvarado. “We threw Jose in, and he gave us a spark on both ends of the floor. Jose was our defensive player of the game tonight.”
The younger Brunson, Jalen, had two points at halftime. He turned up in the second half and broke through against a challenging Rockets defense with ten points in the third quarter and eight points in the fourth quarter. All his points in both quarters came with under five minutes to go.
The following night, the Knicks went to Chicago and beat the Bulls 105-99. For the second night in a row Karl Anthony Towns led the team in scoring with 28 points. Jalen Brunson had 19 points and Landry Shamet had 16 points off the bench. Since the Knicks began the New Year losing nine of eleven games, they have now won 12 of their last 15.
The went on the road to face the Cleveland Cavaliers this past Tuesday before going to Milwaukee to take on the Bucks Friday night. They return home Sunday March 1st to host Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs.
