Monday night was an All-New York affair on the court at Madison Square Garden. The crosstown Brooklyn Nets took on the NBA champion Knicks. Former Knick, Julius Randle, who made three All-Star appearances with the Knicks, was back in the Garden, as he is in his first season with the Nets after being traded there from Minnesota in the offseason. Randle was traded from the Knicks in the summer 2024 to Minnesota in exchange for Karl Anthony Towns. The trade worked out for the Knicks as they won the championship with Towns last season, two seasons after the trade.

On Monday night the Knicks led 51-44 at halftime but were outscored 35-24 by Brooklyn in the third quarter and trailed 79-75 headed into the final quarter. In that fourth quarter the Knicks outscored Brooklyn 28-11 to win by the final score of 103-90. The Knicks record went to 3-4 on the season while Brooklyn is 1-6 which is last in the Eastern Conference. Jalen Brunson scored 19 points for the Knicks, 13 points and 16 rebounds for Karl Anthony Towns, and a team high 22 points for Landry Shamet off the bench for the Knicks. Julius Randle finished with a team high 21 points and 11 rebounds for Brooklyn. The Knicks have now beat Brooklyn 15 straight times and have not beaten bthe Knicks since they traded away Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.
