The San Antonio Spurs fell to the New York Knicks in the NBA Cup Final Tuesday night in Las Vegas. After beating the reigning NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday night in the semifinals, the Spurs blew an 11-point second-half lead with 2:07 to go in the third quarter and were beat 124-113. The Spurs had seven players score in double figures and got 18 points from star 7’5 center Victor Wembanyama. Rookie guard Dylan Harper had a team-high 21 points coming off the bench for the Spurs.
“It was an unbelievable experience to be a part of this, I’m three months into the NBA and I get to go do things like this with a great group of guys,” Harper said following the game. “Just the mindset we went into the game. It got away from us in the fourth quarter, but overall we are going to take a lot from it. We are going to apply it to the next time.” San Antonio is 18-7 on the season and 5.5 games off the first-place pace of Oklahoma City who they beat in the semifinal.
Wembanyama was playing with a very heavy heart as he was told his grandmother passed away before the game.
