The New York Jets, including quarterback Tyrod Taylor, suffered multiple injuries in their 34-10 loss to the Miami Dolphins Sunday at MetLife Stadium.
Taylor, who left the game with a groin injury in the first quarter, was replaced by Brady Cook. The game was impacted, but the Jets scored with a field goal by kicker Nick Folk and a 78-yard punt return touchdown by wide receiver Isaiah Williams.
“When your starter goes down and then you have to bring a backup in, like I just talked about, that doesn’t get all the reps but gets the mental reps, man it’s always tough,” said New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn.
Taylor completed 1 of 4 passes for six yards and Cook threw 14 of 30 passes for 163 yards. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa threw 13 of 21 for 127 yards for the Dolphins.
“For him to have to leave that early in the game, it’s always tough,” Coach Glenn said about Taylor. “So, we’ve got to get him healthy.”
New York trailed early, as Miami scored in their opening drive. The Jets trailed 21-0 in the first quarter before scoring with the touchdown by Williams with about 42 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

“I feel like as a special team unit, every time we touch the field, we’re expected to make a play,” Williams said about his thoughts during the touchdown. “Whenever I get green grass, I get an open field, I got to go score.” He said his faith in God will help him stay motivated the remainder of the season. “It’s something I’ve been repeating to myself for weeks nowadays, ‘The exultant of the righteous is abundant,’ ” he said. “I feel like that’s what gave me strength to go out there confidently each week.”
The Jets were unable to score in the second quarter and trailed 24-7 at halftime. New York also had a scoreless third quarter.
Folk added three points with a 31-yard field goal on the teams’ first possession in the fourth quarter. He has kicked 23 of 24 field goals this season.
Former Jets quarterback Zach Wilson joined the Dolphins with about 1:14 remaining in the 4th quarter and kneeled for the last two snaps of the game.
Jets linebacker Quincy Williams had seven combined tackles and assists and had the only quarterback sack for the Jets’ defense.
“The main mindset is doing what you’re supposed to do being a pro, no matter what,” Williams said about how he plans to keep enthusiasm for the remainder of the season. “No matter what the record is, you’re still a pro.”
The Jets will not make the playoffs this year with their 3-10 record. Glenn provided an update on injuries following the game.
“Tyler Baron has a knee,” he said. “Taylor has a groin, so we’ll see how that is during the week. Kiko Mauigoa had his shoulder, I think this is the same shoulder he’s had before. Stone Smartt possible concussion on that and Mason Taylor has a stinger.”
Glenn said they would look at the quarterback situation this week. The Jets travel to Florida to face the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday afternoon.
