Even with changes, the results were still the same. The New York Football Giants fired their head coach Brian Daboll in his 4th year with a record od 20-40-1 and 1 playoff win against the Minnesota Vikings. The owners let one of their best running backs in Saquon Barkley sign with division rival Philadelphia Eagles. They signed veteran super bowl quaretrback Russell Wilson to a 1-year contract after signing Jameis Winston to a 2-year conctarct. In the end, it didnt matter as they still lost to the Green Bay Packers 27-20 at MetLife Stadium.
Winston did all he could with his infectious and out going personality. He drove them 9 plays, 65 yards resulting in a 5-yard Devin Singletary touchdown run. Green Bay took over 19-13 in the third quarter and Winston got them a brief lead 20-19 after a 15 play 85 resulting in his 1-yard touchdown run. Packers quartreback Jordan Love gets the lead back after a 65-yard, 7 play drive finding Christin Watson for the go ahead touchdown. The 2-point convervsion made it 27-20. The Giants had once last chance to get the game to go into overtime.
With .36 seconds left, Winston had the Giants in striking distance to send the game into overtime. He sees wide reciever Jalin Hyatt in the corner of the end zone and Hyatt never turns around as Packers cornerback Evan Wiliams steps in for the interception. “I’ve got to make the play,” Hyatt said. “When I turned my head it was already in the air, but at the end of the day it’s on me.”
Said Winston after the game, “I really wanted to win for these guys. How we dominated the line of scrimmage, we ran the ball effectively. We did some good things in the passing game. Mike Kafka (interim head coach) did an incredible job calling this game. I really wanted to win this one for us.”
The Giants are on the road the next 2 games. They travel to Detroit before goint to New England to face the Patriots.
