The New York Jets ridded themselves of the distinction of being the only winless team in the NFL, with a 39-38 win over the Bengals in Cincinnati on Sunday. Days after Jets owner Woody Johnson ripped starting quarterback Justin Fields, the first year Jets quarterback answered the moment. With his career on the line he threw for 244 yards and a touchdown. He ran for 31 yards, and converted two 2-point conversions. Running back Breece Hall ran for 133 yards and two touchdowns before throwing the game winning touchdown to rookie tight end Mason Taylor, on a trick play, with under two minutes to go. “This week I found myself in my closet crying on the ground, laying down,” said Justin Fields after the game. “Not because of the hardships, not because of the troubles, I felt like I was built to handle that and I was put in place to handle this situation. But in that moment when I was talking to my best friend, how hard it was, and just not wavering faith wise.” Fields also said he prayed for a win and got an encouraging text during the week from his sister and step mom. The Jets have a bye this Sunday and play next on October 9th against the Cleveland Browns at home.
