First year head coach and former New York Jet Aaron Glenn insisted after losing the first 3 games of the year that his team wasn’t “the same old Jets.” Well Mr. Glenn, after losing to the the lowly Miami Dolphins who came into the game with a record of 0-3, your team is the “same old Jets” as the team fell to 0-4 with no end in site.
Miami wasted no time getting on the board as quarterback Tua Tagovailoa moved the team 37 yards in 10 plays and watched Riley Patterson kick a 47 yard field goal. Jets quarterback Justin Fields moved the team all the way down to the Dolphins 11 yard line before making their first mistake of the. Running back Braelon Allen coughed up the ball leading to a 15 play, 96 yard drive touchdown extending the Miami lead to 10-0. New York would get on the board right before halftime as Nick Folk nails a 58 yard field goal cutting the lead to 10-3.
Once again, the Jets turnover bug would bite the Jets to start the third quarter as kick returner Isaiah Williams fumbles and 6 plays and 35 yards later Tag finds tight end Darren Waller for the 9 yard touchdown pass going up 17-3. Fields responds letting his legs do the as he scrambles 43 yards into the end zone as the Jets got with 7 at 17-10. Unfortunately, the Gang Green defense could not up with a stop.
Miami goes 68 yards in 7 plays and watched running back De’ Von Achane goes 9 yards into the end zone effectively putting the game away. Although the Jets outscored the Dolphins 11-3 in the fourth quarter, it wasn’t enough in the 27-21 loss.
Fields finished completing 20 of 27 passes, 226 yards and 1 touchdown. Tagovailoa completed 17 of 25, 177 yards and 2 touchdowns. Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill suffered a dislocated left knee and was carted off the field. He is expected to undergo and will miss the rest of the season.
Said Glenn of the penalties and turnovers, “very disappointing, very disappointing. There is no way you can win any game with 13 penalties and 3 turnovers. It just can’t happen.”
The 0-4 start is the time since the 2020 season. Things are not getting any easier as they host the Dallas Cowboys Sunday. Dallas and Green Bay fished tied last Sunday 40-40.
