Sunday afternoon was rough for the New York Jets, as they suffered multiple injuries in a 30-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills at MetLife stadium for their second loss of the season.
The Jets starting quarterback, Justin Fields, left the game in the fourth quarter to be treated for a concussion as Tyrod Taylor replaced him and threw the lone touchdown in the game. The Jets suffered on both sides of the ball as defensive players were also injured and were unavailable to play in the second half of the game, which made an impact.
“I have to look at myself,” said first year head coach Aaron Glenn. “All the players have to look at themselves and the coaches have to look at themselves also. Apparently, I didn’t have the guys ready to play.”
Glenn said he wanted to look at the tape when he was asked about the performance of quarterbacks following the game.
Fields completed 3 of 11 passes for 27 yards and and ran for 49 yards on five carries. Taylor threw 7 of 11 for 56 yards and had 21 yards on three carries. Both quarterbacks were sacked twice. Bills quarterback Josh Allen who won his first MVP award last year completed 14 of 25 passes for 148 yards and rushed for 59 yards on 6 carries.
The Jets were not on the scoreboard until the second quarter when Nick Folk converted a 51-yard field goal. New York trailed 20-3 at halftime.
Following the first half of the game, the Jets announced both safety Tony Adams (groin) and Edge Jermaine Johnson (ankle) were downgraded to out and cornerback Michael Carter II (shoulder) was questionable to return.
“For our offense, if they’re not doing their best, they should be able to lean on us,” said cornerback Sauce Gardner. “If we’re not doing our best, we should be able to lean on them.”
The Bills had three forced fumbles and one recovery in the second half of the game and the Jets had one forced fumble, also in the second half.
Taylor stepped in with about 12 minutes left in the game. He threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to tight end Jeremy Ruckert with about 3:30 remaining.
The Jets face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this Sunday in Tampa. Said Gardner on what he wants to improve before then, “I feel like as a defense, we got to do better at limiting points for sure, because Buffalo their defense did a decent job at that today, so why can’t we”?
The Jets now 0-2 will be away for the next two games as they in Miami on Monday night September 29th.
