Nationwide — A 14-year-old girl’s mother caught a man sneaking into her daughter’s bedroom through a window late at night in Odessa, Texas. The man, identified as 30-year-old Ivan Quiroga-Vargas, fled but dropped his phone, leading to his arrest days later. On April 28th, the girl called her mother for help while pretending to be asleep, whispering that someone was trying to break into her room. The mother rushed in and found the man standing in front of her daughter’s bed.

The mother screamed, and the intruder dove back out the window. According to Star-Telegram, she tried to stop him and briefly grabbed his feet but let go as he escaped. Officers responded quickly to the 911 call and began investigating the break-in.

Three days later, police arrested Quiroga-Vargas after the phone he left behind at the scene helped identify him. During questioning, Quiroga-Vargas claimed he was drunk and high on cocaine at the time. He told investigators he thought he was entering his own home and often came in through the window.

However, the girl’s mother said the man had to remove a window air conditioning unit to get inside. She shared the story on Facebook, saying, “I hate to think what could’ve happened had she not woken up and called me scared, whispering, and faking asleep.”

Quiroga-Vargas was charged with criminal trespass, and the case may lead to more charges as the investigation continues. He was transferred to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after his arrest.
