The Toronto Raptors secured a dominant 116-86 win over the Brooklyn Nets at Barclays Center, controlling the game from start to finish. Their defensive discipline,

rebounding edge, and efficient offense were key to the victory.

The Raptors set the tone early, holding the Nets to 35.6% shooting and just 19.5% from three. They forced 20 turnovers, converting them into 30 points, and outrebounded Brooklyn 63-43, limiting second-chance opportunities.

Head coach Darko Rajaković emphasized effort, stating, “There’s no substitute for effort.” Toronto’s defensive intensity and active hands played a crucial role.

The Nets, despite playing at home, struggled offensively. They relied on perimeter shooting but hit just 19.5% from beyond the arc. Defensively, they struggled to protect the paint, allowing 58 points inside.

Nic Claxton was a bright spot with 22 points and 11 rebounds, but Brooklyn’s backcourt production was lacking. D’Angelo Russell and Keon Johnson combined for just 13 points. The Nets attempted to generate offense through ball movement, but turnovers and poor execution led to missed opportunities.

Scottie Barnes contributed 15 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists, impacting both ends of the floor. Rajaković called him “our leader,” crediting him for setting the tone and making key plays.

Jamal Shead orchestrated the offense with 8 assists and just one turnover. His steady play at point guard helped Toronto maintain control. “It goes a long way, and it helps me a lot,” Shead said afterwards.

Jonathan Mogbo made an impact with his defensive energy and hustle plays. “I try to impact my game with things that make us successful,” he said. His versatility was key in limiting Brooklyn’s offensive threats.

The Raptors led throughout, jumping to a 32-18 first-quarter lead. Their ability to control the pace, force turnovers, and dominate inside secured the win.

Rajaković summed it up: “There’s no guarantee that you are going to win, but if you put in the effort, you give yourself a chance.”

The Nets go on the road for their next 3 games while the Raptors visit the Charlotte Hornets on Friday.
