A 17-year-old from Tennessee was arrested last week after evading authorities for over a month, accused of firing a gun at a FedEx driver in what police described as a road rage incident. The teenager, whose name has not been released due to his age, was found hiding under a bed at his father’s home in Lexington. His father now faces charges for allegedly misleading authorities during the investigation.

The incident began on December 15, 2024, in Jackson, Tennessee, when the teen, driving a pickup truck, nearly caused a collision with a FedEx van. According to police, the situation escalated when he pursued the driver and fired a shot, which narrowly missed the FedEx employee and struck the van behind the victim’s head. The driver called 911 and followed the suspect while providing details to police.

The pursuit turned into a high-speed chase on Highway 40, with authorities attempting to pull over the suspect as he sped away at 100 mph. Despite their efforts, the teen managed to evade capture that day. The U.S. Marshals Service later launched an investigation, leading them to the Lexington home where the boy was ultimately apprehended.

Authorities also arrested the teen’s father, Ricky Maness Jr., 44, who they said provided false information about his son’s whereabouts. According to a press release from the Marshals, the father claimed the teenager was not present, only for officers to find him hiding under a bed. Maness has been charged as an accessory after the fact and is being held in the Henderson County Detention Center pending arraignment.

The teenager faces several charges, including attempted first-degree murder, felony reckless endangerment, and felony evading arrest. He is currently being held at the Madison County Juvenile Detention Center. The incident has sparked debate online about whether the suspect, despite being a minor, should face adult charges given the severity of the accusations.
