Indianapolis police are investigating the tragic death of 30-year-old Chanti Dixon, whose body was discovered in a wooded area on September 9. Officers found Dixon, a Black woman, nude and with gunshot wounds to her head near the 1800 block of Wagner Lane. She had been reported missing after taking an Uber home from work earlier that night but never made it back. According to investigators, the last person Dixon was seen with was her Uber driver.
Court documents reveal that Francisco Valadez, the 29-year-old Uber driver, has been arrested and charged with her murder. Valadez reportedly confessed to attempting to engage in sexual activity with Dixon in the back of his vehicle. When Dixon refused, Valadez admitted to fatally shooting her, then dragging her body out of the car and concealing it behind a concrete barrier. The case has sent shockwaves through Dixon’s community, where neighbors described her as a quiet, dedicated mother who mostly kept to herself.
In response to the incident, Uber issued a statement expressing their deep concern, pledging to investigate further and take action. The company emphasized its commitment to ensuring safety on its platform and addressing any reports of this nature. Meanwhile, police continue to gather evidence, and additional charges may be filed against Valadez as the investigation unfolds.
