Plenty To Blame In Jets Loss To Detroit

The New York Jets had opportunities to defeat the Detroit Lions at
MetLife Stadium last Sunday but the offense, defense, special teams,
and even the coaching staff all share the blame in the excruciatingly
painful 20-17 loss.

Detroit got on the scoreboard after a three-and-out led to a 47-yard
punt return touchdown by Kalif Raymond. The New York defense kept
Detroit out of the end zone all game until allowing tight end Brock
Wright to sprint 51 yards for a go-ahead touchdown after a fourth and
inches near mid-field.

The Jets had a chance to win or send the game into overtime, but poor
clock management by the coaching staff, combined with a missed field
goal attempt by Greg Zuerlein sent gang green home with a loss.

Jets head coach Robert Saleh acknowledged the imperfections of his
clock management on the final drive. “ I can probably look back at it
and say we could’ve used (a timeout), for sure,” he said.

Saleh had good things to say about Zach Wilson, who returned to the
starting lineup after not being on the after roster for three games.

“I thought he played well,” Saleh said.  “Like I said, there’s ebbs
and flows of the game. There are always going to be things we can
nit-pick at, but he moved the ball, created explosive plays.”

Wilson acknowledged making costly mistakes in the three-point loss.

“I got to be better, man,” he said. “I think you guys saw it, we had
explosive plays offensively, but it’s the first and second down, just
staying ahead of the sticks. I can think of a number of plays I left
out there. You got to look at it like a learning process, just trying
to keep improving every single week and that’s the goal.”

The Jets host the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday night.
